The Battle of Electric Vehicles has Started All Over the World!

Wall Street News     2022-03-07

At present, many countries around the world actively introduce relevant industrial policies and regulations, improve the electric vehicle industry chain, accelerate the promotion of electric vehicles and promote low-carbon and environmental travel. Major car enterprises and battery companies have increased their horsepower to lay out electric vehicles and their industrial chain, especially the power battery market.

Tesla, the leader of electric vehicles, said it expected an average annual increase of 50% in car sales in the future. Tesla delivered about 500000 vehicles in 2020 and is expected to deliver more than 800000 vehicles in 2021. On battery day last September, Tesla released 4680 electrodeless ear large cylindrical battery technology. Compared with the 2170 battery previously used by Tesla, the 4680 battery has a larger volume. According to official data, the energy density of the 4680 battery will be increased by 5 times, the output power will be increased by 6 times, the cost per kWh will be reduced by 14%, and the endurance mileage of the vehicle equipped with the battery can be increased by 16%. The market expects this new technology to start mass production in 2023.

Volkswagen plans to spend about $80 billion on car electrification and autonomous driving between now and 2030. Volkswagen said that the proportion of sales of electric products will reach 50% in 2030. Volkswagen also invested in QuantumScape (QS), the leading company of solid-state batteries, which promised to invest US $300 million and set up a joint venture with it for the commercial production of batteries. In July this year, QS announced that it was promoting the 10 layer battery test, taking an important step towards the commercial deployment of solid-state batteries.

In June this year, General Motors announced that it would invest $8 billion to build two battery factories for electric vehicles. Some of these batteries are produced for partner Honda Motor (HMC).

In May, Ford announced the establishment of a battery joint venture with SK Innovation of South Korea. The total expenditure on electric vehicles is expected to be about US $30 billion from 2021 to 2025.
